Every day, Idaho Power faces the challenge of providing reliable energy to our customers while respecting the environment, keeping costs down and maintaining fair prices. At the same time, demand continues to grow. The average size of a new home has increased significantly, and people are using more and more high-tech electronics and appliances.
Over the next 20 years, electric loads are expected to grow by an average of 40 Megawatts (MW) per year. The total growth over that time period is equivalent to the output of Idaho Power's largest hydroelectric plant, the Brownlee facility in Hells Canyon.
Idaho Power’s programs and energy efficiency education could significantly impact the growing demand on the electric system. We encourage our customers to participate and make changes now in how they use electricity.
After all, the lowest cost megawatt is the one we don’t have to produce.
