There is growing concern among utilities and the public to address emissions and reduce the environmental impact of particulate and greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2). Different solutions affect the cost of production, which then affects electricity rates.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 offers substantial financial incentives for innovative advanced coal technologies that reduce emissions, including CO2 emissions and promote more efficient use of fossil fuel resources. Idaho Power is constantly monitoring the ongoing research and supports the goal of reducing emissions from coal- and gas-fired plants.
