How Can We Get More Power To Customers?

Idaho Power and Rocky Mountain Power, a division of PacifiCorp, are partnering to build a high-voltage transmission project across southern Wyoming and southern Idaho, linking electric generating resources to customers in the region.

This project, announced in May, 2007, will address growing demand on the transmission system and increase electric system reliability in the service areas for both companies.

In addition, the project will enable delivery of emerging renewable generating resources, such as wind, to more customers in the larger area.

Segments of this project, known as Gateway West, are scheduled to be completed in 2012.

We Need More Wires To Transport Electricity

Under certain system conditions, transmission capability in this area is approaching full capacity. This project is needed to meet the projected electrical demand of the future.

As transmission providers, both companies have the obligation to plan and construct transmission facilities to ensure reliable electric service to customers and service the needs of others requesting use of the transmission system.

With a five- to 10-year timeframe to complete the project, work has begun to enable the companies to meet their obligation to serve customers in the future.
