Emission free hydroelectric power is one of the lowest cost sources of energy, yet it's also one of the most renewable. With 17 hydroelectric facilities in Idaho and Oregon, Idaho Power holds the distinction of being one of the nation's few investor-owned utilities with a predominantly hydroelectric generating base. In years of normal rain and snowfall, resulting stream flows allow hydropower to provide well over 50 percent of the company's generation. This low-cost source of electricity means lower rates for customers.
But demand for water is increasing even as annual average stream flow levels are decreasing. Idaho Power is continually working to preserve both the value this emission-free source of energy brings all of us, and the place it holds in our future plan for reliable, affordable power.
